Buzzbaits

A propeller that will not stay underwater. Loud, ugly and violently effective.

What it is

A wire frame with a skirted head and a rotating aluminum or plastic prop on the upper arm. It only works on the surface, and only while moving. The prop churns, sprays and squeaks, and the squeak is a real thing that experienced anglers listen for and encourage.

When to throw one

Low light and dirty water. Summer nights, first light, and heavy overcast. Wood, grass edges and shallow flats. It is a search bait for water where visibility is bad enough that fish are hunting by sound.

How to fish it

Cast past the target and start reeling before the bait lands so it never sinks. Keep it at the slowest speed that holds it on top, which puts it in front of a fish for longer. Bump it into cover.

Gear that matters

A trailer hook is close to mandatory. Buzzbait strikes are notorious for missing, and the trailer converts a lot of them.

The common mistake

Reeling fast. Slower keeps it in the zone and lets fish catch up to it.

A family is a product line. A variant is one color and size of it, which is the level the app actually reasons about.

What a web page cannot know

Everything above is true of buzzbaits everywhere, in every month, for every angler. That is exactly the problem with it. Cobia answers the narrower question.

Right now on your water
Ranked against the buzzbaits in your box
Color for today's clarity and light
Size and weight for the tide you are fishing

Those four lines need a location, a clock and your actual tackle box. No website has any of them.
