The collection

Fishdex™

599 species, and an incomplete collection is the best reason there is to go fishing again on a day you were not going to.

It fills itself

You log a catch, the collection updates

There is no separate step. Log a fish, confirm the species Cobia identified, and the entry fills in with your photo, the date, the water, and the conditions at the time.

  • 599 species tracked, with the ones you have not caught still visible as the chase
  • Your photo becomes the entry, not a stock illustration
  • Personal best tracked per species with length and weight
  • Conditions recorded so you can see what was happening the day you got it

What each species page carries

Identification

Scientific name, alternate common names, and habitat notes, so you learn the fish rather than just collecting it.

Records

The state record to measure yourself against, alongside your own personal best for that species.

Your history

Total times caught, first catch date and location, and the conditions across every one of them.

Regulations

Slot limits, bag limits, and season dates for the species where you are, right on the page.

What produces

Which lure classes and colors work for that species, tied back into the what to throw recommendations.

A top ten for every species

Each species entry carries a leaderboard of the ten anglers who have logged the most of it, app wide. Not your county, not your followers. Whoever has caught the most snook in Cobia is on the snook page, and so is the gap between you and them.

Milestones

Species firsts and collection milestones at ten, twenty five, fifty, and a hundred species, plus challenge and seasonal badges.

The chase

The ones you have not caught are the point

Search any name and the fish you have landed come back in full color behind a gold border with your count on them. The rest sit there as gray silhouettes with three question marks and a rarity, which is the part that gets people driving somewhere new.

A Fishdex search for bass showing Florida Largemouth Bass, Hybrid Striped Bass and Largemouth Bass in full colour behind gold borders with catch counts, beside gray silhouettes of Barred Sand Bass, Black Sea Bass, Butterfly Peacock Bass, Giant Seabass, Guadalupe Bass and Kelp Bass marked with question marks and rarity tiers
Caught, and not yetLegendary, rare, uncommon, common. The gray ones have a rarity too.
A home screen panel headed species in your waters showing Mayan Cichlid, Largemouth Bass, Blue Tilapia, Bluegill, Nile Tilapia and Brown Bullhead with how many of each were caught this month nearby
What is catchable near youWith how many came out this month, so the chase is a real one.
Questions

About fishdex™

Cobia identifies the species from your photo and shows you what it thinks with a confidence indication. You confirm or correct it, and your correction is what gets recorded.

Things that are not fish get a record, but the icon and description pipeline gates on fish, ray, and shark, so a crab or a stingray behaves sensibly rather than getting a full species treatment it does not deserve.

Yes. Your Fishdex™ is your personal collection, so imported catches count toward it even though they do not rank on leaderboards.
