A photo of a fish proves almost nothing on its own. A photo taken inside the app, at a known place, at a known time, with the water temperature and tide stage recorded alongside it, proves quite a lot.

You do not fill in a form. You take the picture. Cobia captures the GPS, the UTC timestamp, the device sensor state, and the live conditions from the nearest station, then identifies the species from the photo.

It works with no bars, because that is where you fish
The capture queue is real storage, not a cache. A signed capture survives an app kill, a phone restart, and low storage pressure, and uploads itself when you get back into coverage.
- Captures persist locally until they upload, with a count badge so you know what is pending

It names the fish, then shows you its working
Not a label and a percentage. It calls out the diagnostic features it read, names the species it could have been confused with, and says why it ruled that one out. Then it puts the size and bag limit for your state on the same screen, before you decide whether the fish goes in the box.

Length and weight can be entered on the catch, and measurements are labeled by how they were obtained so a leaderboard can tell the difference. LiDAR assisted measurement on Pro iPhones is on the roadmap, not shipped today.
No. You can import from your camera roll any time. The catch is still logged, still counts for your Fishdex™ and your personal log, and still appears in the feed. It is labeled Imported because it cannot carry the same guarantees.
Catch photos you log are stored with your account so they render in your log, your Fishdex™, and the feed according to the visibility you chose. Receipt photos used for tackle scanning are deleted after review.
